Wtf Just Happened

Let me get this straight- For eight years, we had President Barack Obama, cool as they come, working hard to fix the problems of the world, a thinking man's President, and now we're going to replace him with the dude my Dad wouldn't even let me listen to on Howard Stern as a kid, Donald Trump? Wow.

In 2004, when George W. Bush was re-elected, I remember laying in bed the next day and wondering how it happened? All the protests I saw, the huge crowds for John Kerry events, the palpable anger against that President had to have been real, right? How could he have won, after doing the things he did? How?

Well, I'm a little older now, and while I'm much more upset about President-elect Trump, I don't have many questions in my mind about "how?" I know "how" this happened. It's super complicated, but it's not too. One piece of this is what Donald Trump came to represent for people, and one part of it is what Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party came to represent for people. Another piece of it is the people themselves. Some of it falls on media coverage and the media in general too, I'm not absolving them at all. A lot of it comes down to American life.

Either way- it's over now. Now we can all just hate President Trump. I'm not going to write a long essay about why Trump won, because frankly it'd take too long, and because it's done. He's going to be President in January. That's the fact of the matter.

So that leaves the real question as this- what now? What will President-elect Trump do? I think you have to take him at his word. He said he'll build the wall with Mexico. He said he'll ban immigration from Muslims, then amended it to be mean certain nations. He said he'll gut gun control. He said climate change is a hoax created by the Chinese. He said he'll forge a friendship with Vladimir Putin. He said he's for "law and order," like President Nixon, including "stop and frisk." He said a lot of things, almost all of which I disagree with, but a few I agreed with (raising the minimum wage to $10 an hour was at one point his position). I have to take him at his word, at who he says he is.

That leads to a really ugly conclusion moving forward- either Donald Trump is the bigot he is, or he's an opportunist who just lied to millions of his followers for over a year to get elected. If he's not going to do the things he said he is, then what did you vote for? You should feel used. If he is going to do what he said, well then why should I support his Presidency?

So basically, either way, he's #NotMyPresident
